RESEARCH
Animal Cell Culture
Research focuses on process development, modelling and optimisation of biological systems. Currently we are involved in developing chemically defined media (CDF) for cultivating of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO), hybridoma and Human Embryonic Kidney-293 which are industrially important production cell lines. Using CDM will enable us to undertake stoichiometric and metabolic flux analyses and to develop control strategies for fed-batch systems leading to improved metabolism and hence enhance overall productivity. Effects of culture conditions on gene and protein expression profiles are tracked using proteomics (2DE, MALDI and Tandem MS) and DNA microarrays. We are also interested in prolonged fed-batch on protein glycosylation specifically in elucidating cellular responses in an apoptotic environment.
