SYNOPSIS

 The centre is concentrating on the development of PEM based Fuel cell systems, in addition to hydrogen generation and hydrogen storage by various methods. The Research and technical programs in Fuel cells are related to Gas  diffusion layers, Fuel cell Electrode , Low cost fuel cell components, Bipolar plates, Non Noble Metal Catalyst , Humidifiers – Design and development, Combined water and Thermal Management , Gas flow control, Fuel cell control, Power converters, Fuel cell stacks – Flow field design development , Stack design  development, Stack Testing and Analysis, Fuel cell systems- Development of PEMFC system for Grid Independent Power  and for transport applications. The centre has developed various modules of PEMFC stacks ranging from a few mW to 6 kW modules.  The complete grid Independent systems ranging from 500 watts to 3 kW has been developed at our centre and all these aspects will be discussed.

 

BIOGRAPHY

 

After obtaining Ph.D from IIT, Madras, Dr Rajalakshmi worked as post doctoral fellow in TH Darmstadt, Germany and University of Geneva, Switzerland for about 8 years.  She has worked on the various aspects of Hydrogen economy like production, storage and utilization.  She has gained the vast experience in PEMFC technology both in Material aspects and Engineering issues from SPIC science foundation and Center for Fuel cell Technology for the past 10 years. She is a visiting scientist of Korea research Institute of Chemical technology, south Korea under the Brain pool programme. Presently she is a senior scientist at CFCT, unit of ARCI, DST at Chennai. 

 She has chaired a few sessions and given invited talks in various International conferences on Fuel cell science, Engineering technology.  She is a reviewer for many journals, member of International Association of Hydrogen energy, and Materials Research society of India. She has about 60 publications   in various International Journals, 4 books and 10 patents to her credit.
